How Do You Know When to Take Your Child for Their First Dental Visit?

Posted .

It’s important for parents to keep their children healthy and strong. But did you know that you’ll need to keep your child’s mouth healthy if you’re hoping to help them stay healthy overall? To do so, you’ll have to visit a dentist regularly—but did you know when you should schedule your child’s first appointment?

We recommend scheduling your little one’s appointment about six months after their first tooth erupts—or when they’re about a year old. While your child may not need care when they’re a year old, starting dental care early can help your child adjust to dental visits.

During your first visit, our dentist will devote time to developing a friendly relationship with your little one. Our team will also explain how you can help your child brush and floss correctly and give you advice on helping your child stay strong. Of course, our team will also examine your child’s teeth, gums, jaws, and bite for signs of potential problems. We’ll also help you introduce your child to dental terminology, such as brushing and flossing.

To learn more about the care you can receive from our team, or to set up your child’s first appointment with us, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 404-381-1734. Dr. Kathleen Tantuco and our team at Vernon Woods Dental and Implant Center will be happy to address any of your concerns and do our best to make your visit a pleasant one. We are eager to meet with you.
