The Oral Hygiene Tips You Need to Keep Your Gums From Bleeding

Posted .

Do you want to prevent bleeding gums? If so, you have come to the right blog! Our dentists,  Dr. Tantuco and Dr. Chong, encourage you to take good care of your gums and prevent bleeding as much as possible. This is because the bleeding gums pose as a sign of a larger problem. If you care for your gums, the larger problem might not be there in the first place. So, to help you prevent bleeding gums in Sandy Springs, Georgia, our dentist has some tips for you.

First, brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush. The soft bristles will care for your gums as you scrub. Brushing is an important prevention technique because it cleans the area near the gums. Oftentimes, gums bleed because they are irritated and infected by the surrounding bacteria, which is the first stage of gum disease. The gums send blood to the area to fight the infection. If the area is clean, the gums won’t need to send the blood in the first place.

Second, floss your teeth once a day with a flossing product of your choice. As you floss, be careful around the gums. Flossing can also remove the plaque and bacteria that irritate and infect the gums, so make sure to floss right before bed each night.

Third, visit your dentist for your routine dental cleaning appointments. This is important because the cleaning will remove the harmful substances better than your toothbrush and floss can. In fact, it’s one of the only ways to completely remove the bacteria that attack and harm the gums. So, make sure to visit your dentist every six months.
