What Should I Expect at My Dental Cleaning?

Posted .

Sometimes dental appointments are scary and intimidating, but there is no need to be nervous about your upcoming dental cleaning. Dental cleanings are painless and beneficial, and they can help you reduce your chances of developing tooth decay and gum disease. However, our Vernon Woods Dental and Implant Center team understands that the cleanings can still be a bit frightening. So, to help you feel better about your upcoming appointment, we are happy to explain the process of the cleaning. When you come into our office, you can expect:

1. A warm welcome: Our warm welcome will make you feel right at home. We will approach you with a happy and friendly smile and then we will guide you through our office when it’s your turn for a cleaning. Once you get to your comfortable dental chair, we will review your medical history and will ask you any necessary questions. We will also welcome your questions if you have any.

2. A dental cleaning: When you are ready, we will deeply clean your smile by scraping the surfaces of your teeth with a special tool. This will help remove the plaque and tartar that threatens to destroy your oral health with tooth decay and gum disease each day. Then, we will clean the hard-to-reach areas of your smile by flossing each crevice. This will also help remove plaque. Finally, we will put the finishing touches on your smile by polishing your pearly whites.

3. A fluoride treatment: Fluoride is a beneficial mineral that strengthens and nourishes your smile, which is why we include it in the cleaning process. The fluoride treatment will come in the form of a foam, gel, or varnish and it will likely be flavored to make it more enjoyable. We will place the fluoride into your mouth and will wait for the minerals to soak into your chompers. Once the proper time has passed, you will rinse your mouth with cool, refreshing water.

If the appointment includes your dental exam, then your visit will also include an examination by your dentist and taking a few dental X-Rays. The exam and X-Rays will help Dr. Kathleen Tantuco closely examine your smile for any dental issues. If you would like to know more about the exam portion of the appointment or if you have dental cleaning questions, please feel free to call 404-381-1734 at your earliest convenience. The more you know about your dental cleaning and checkup in Sandy Springs, Georgia, the better!
